Dear Greg:
In or about 1954, there was a pickle man named Jake, who sold pickles on Jennings Street in the Bronx. He sold them for a nickel a pickle.
I would venture to say that he was the precursor to the Pickle Guys on Essex St.
There were also pickle selling places on Hestor Street in the Lower East Side.
The history of pickles is a grand one indeed.
