Sad news, guys. Estelle Getty--Sophia from The Golden Girls--passed away this morning.
Jon and I loved this show. We watched it so often that we'd use the shorthand "Double G's" instead of the full title. They don't make shows like the Double G's anymore...
So tonight, before you tune in to a Golden Girls marathon, bake up a batch of my cheesecake-stuffed Golden Girls cookies. And remember: Blanche keeps the whipped cream in her bedroom.

Ah yes - fond memories of many laughs with those golden girls!

Sophia reminds me of my grandmother, except gramma's stories centered on The Depression or on tricking Mumma into drinking goat's milk.

"Sophia's" characterization of the typical Italian grandmother was so perfect I could close my eyes and picture my own "nonna". She brought laughter to the masses; and, thanks to the magic of reruns, we will continue to enjoy her remarkable talent. Rest in peace, dear Estelle. (Do you think she took her handbag with her to the Great Beyond?)
