Reader Jenny emailed me last night to ask this question:
“You did cookies for a few states....Florida and California, etc....what about other ones? What would you do for the rest of them?”
Hi, Jenny! Thanks for writing in. I do have a few state-themed cookies on my list, for example: Hawaii, Florida, California, and Texas.
I think that doing individual cookies for the remaining 46 states would definitely be a project to keep me busy for a while, but it's something that's definitely doable.
To make a state-specific cookie, all you've got to do is find out what produce/product the state is famous for...like Georgia and peaches. Some other ideas: Maine = blueberries (or lobster!), Massachusetts = cranberries, Mississippi = Tupelo honey, Michigan = cherries. Boy...that's a lot of M states! But you get the picture.
I promise that I'll post some more state cookies soon.

I LOVE reading your blog! It is one of my food favorites, mostly because I have a weakness for great cookies! I am from Maryland, and I hope you won't attempt crab cookies. (MD is famous for its crabs.) I'm sure we must be famous for something else, but I can't thing of what it would be that would make great cookies. Anyway, just wanted you to know, and only wish I lived closer so I could test out your cookies!

You could do a peanut brittle/praline cookie for VA. I know most people think of GA first, but the Commonwealth produces some mighty fine peanuts as well.

Hi, Alicia. Good one! I remember eating bag after bag of boiled peanuts when I was a kid and my parents dragged me and my brother around Williamsburg Pottery Factory for what seemed like days.
It looks like I'm developing another cookie project to keep me busy!

Well, I live in Kansas, with Sunflowers being our state flower, you could do a cookie with sunflower seeds. I didn't take the time to see if you already have. But I grew up in Idaho and here's a doozy for you, some kind of cookie with potatoes! Can't wait to see what else you can come up with.

P.S. Kansas is the Wheat State, how easy would that be!

Hi, Katrina! Thanks for writing in. An oatmeal + sunflower seed cookie for Kansas could be really interesting. Or...I could do an oatmeal, whole wheat, and sunflower seed cookie. How much healthier could that be?
And Idaho...maybe I could put some potato flakes to work.
I'll keep following up on this, so stay tuned!
