Operation Baking GALS organizes bakers and food bloggers into groups of volunteers who send soldiers in Iraq cookie-stuffed care packages every month.
For round #5, I made my Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies. Four dozen of them! I thought about sending Christmas cookies, but I figured that chocolate chip was more homey.
If you've got the time, think about sending some love to someone you don't know. Round #6 will start up in mid-January.
What a great cause! Thanks for posting about it, and for sending cookies. I'll be traveling for a few weeks, and intend to join in when I get back. I always want to bake more but don't have a good enough reason - now I do! I'm really looking forward to doing this, thanks again!

Hi, Carol. I'm so glad that you're interested in signing up for Baking GALS. The group just got a new site ( http://www.bakinggals.com/ ), so you'll have to create a login. Once the next round is announced, you can sign up for one or more team. The team leaders send you the name and address--and sometimes some bio info--for a soldier. Then you send the package off. The shipping is cheaper than you'd think. My last package cost less than $7, and I sent 4 dozen cookies. :-)
