(All the Englishness has drawn out my inner alliterative Hyacinth Bucket.)
Last night, my English friend Gary took me shopping at Myers of Keswick--a "traditional English shop serving expatriates" in New York--to find some truly British ingredients to make a truly British biscuit for him. Thanks, Gary!
We searched high and low among the bottles of HP sauce, packs of Hobnobs, and cans of Heinz curried beans to find the right stuff and settled on some ginger beer, Cadbury drinking chocolate, lemon curd, canned gooseberries, fruit pastilles, and some packets of custard and butterscotch powders. Oh, and of course, some jaffa cakes and a couple sausage rolls. (Mmm...sausage rolls.)
There's got to be two or three recipes in these ingredients. My first thought is to do a jaffa cake-inspired thumbprint cookie with a lemon curd-gooseberry filling topped with chocolate. Stay tuned to see what I come up with.

i'm so excited to see what's in store! my supermarket is a generic chain but has the best british section and i know it's underutilized.

Hi Greg, have you had Digestive biscuits? I grew up eating them, one of my faves! So good especially dunked in a warm beverage, like hot chocolate or in my case warm Milo.

Hi, Sweetie. I'm going to try to squeeze some baking in on Thursday night, and I'm planning on doing a cookie based on these British ingredients. :-)

Hi, Amelia. I haven't had Digestive biscuits before. But I must try them! I used to like dunking iced oatmeal cookies in my tea/hot chocolate. Hey...that's *another* idea for a cookie!
