My pals Gary and Alan escaped to the country from New York for the long Presidents' Day weekend. Hoo-ray...I love seeing my boys!
We explored the touristy sites, ate at some of my favorite local places, and--of course--baked cookies together. Gary was the recipe reader, Alan was the sous chef, and my friend Katie was the moral support when we baked a batch of Fluffernutter Cookies. It was a blast. And, for future reference, never underestimate the power of a hot pink faux fur shrug to get the party started.
For dinner Sunday, we met up with my friend Ryan at Ember for a touch of Manhattan-ish style in the Massachusetts woods:
1) Roasted pear and arugula salad with shaved manchego and lingonberry balsamic vinaigrette. 2) Baby spinach salad with prosciutto, almonds, dried cranberries, and goat cheese. 3) Pan-seared sea scallops with lobster and asparagus risotto and saffron sauce.
4) Pan-seared swordfish medallion with potato-leek hash and Brussels sprouts. 5) Braised lamb shanks, creamy shiitake and mascarpone polenta, and lamb jus. 6) Cider-glazed, wood-grilled pork tenderloin with sweet potato; roasted, spiced quince; and braised endive. 7) Chocolate souffle with raspberry sauce.
