A few months ago, my buddy Ryan gave me some homemade vanilla extract to bloom and bake with.
Vanilla beans + vodka + cool, dark place + weekly bottle rotation = primo vanilla extract. Ta-dah!
Pretty simple. After all, extract is mostly booze. (I learned that from Family Ties when Tom Hanks played Uncle Ned.) I'm sure it's great in cookies, but I'll have to investigate how it tastes in drinks.

I would think that, unless the vanilla flavor is too strong or something, this would be delicious in drinks! I've looked into giving homemade liquor/flavored vodka as birthday gifts loads of times, but I never actually do it. Anyway, if you do some internet research, you'll find that this is usually how you make drinkable homemade flavored spirits. Throw something in the bottle, forget about it for a few weeks, aaaaand ta da!
