By a 2-1 margin, care-uh-mel beats out car-mel in my caramel pronunciation poll. (I'm with the care-uh-mel camp.)

So far, it looks like folks around the edges of the U.S map say care-uh-mel, and folks in the middle of the map say car-mel.

People pronounce the word caramel either as care-uh-mel or as car-mel. (Personally, I say the former. There's an A in there, after all!) Maybe it's a regional thing. What do you say?

Here are the results (so far) for my cookie texture poll.

I'm about 1/3 in the crispy camp and 2/3 in the chewy camp. My favorite cookie texture by far is a crispy exterior with a chewy interior. And who doesn't eat raw cookie dough? (Though I have to admit that raw cake batter is strangely appealing to me.)

Thanks, everybody, for responding to my poll about favorite cookie flavorings. I checked the results this afternoon, and--as I suspected--chocolate is in the lead. Voting remains open, so feel free to weigh in if you haven't already. Here are the results (so far):
